DR ROY DAVIES
VICE PRESIDENT OF MEX

Dr. Roy Davies is the Vice President of MEX (Mastertude Edutainment Xperience).

Roy brings over 20 years’ experience in VR to Mastertude, overseeing the MEX tech vision and design, and evolving cinema, Hollywood film, and education.

A pioneer in his field, Roy worked on VR projects as far back as the late 90s, exploring using VR for brain injury rehabilitation and participatory design.

On completion of his PhD in the Usability of VR at Lund University in Sweden, Roy established RE-FLEX, one of the first and largest VR research centers in Europe, based out of the University.

When he returned to New Zealand, Roy was employed as the CEO and then CTO for NextSpace – a 3D visualization hub, which was a collaboration between the NZ government and software developers Right Hemisphere, to catalyze research and new product/application development in the 3D graphics space. He then assisted the Auckland University of Technology in building up their new VR Centre in Design.

He also co-founded Imersia, which harnesses the power of multi-user Mixed Reality (MR), and co-invented a revolutionary, patented method of distributing digital and immersive gamified content to any location.

Roy has spent extensive time in research, business environments, and as an educator and business technology mentor. Currently, he is a senior technician in VR at the University of Auckland's Smart Digital Lab and an advisor for Masters candidates at the private tertiary provider, Tech Futures Lab.

With his background, Roy is uniquely placed to create MEX - developing commercial systems that are educational, and finding solutions to complex, practical problems.
